Most of us who didn’t have decent enough television vendors like www.Cable.tv or access to Hub or any other kid-friendly premier channel had to make do with PBS. That was okay, though, considering all the great stuff you could find on there and, really, the true is same even today.
Of course, when you grow up, unless you have kids, you really aren’t going out of your way to see Sesame Street – you’ve learned those life lessons. That’s where Avenue Q comes in.
In the musical theatre world, Avenue Q is basically Sesame Street for adults. The catchy songs and sickeningly complex characters tell very real and, often times, disturbing tales about adult life and mere existence. It’s all presented in a very tongue-in-cheek manner that keeps it from being preachy.
Everything adults are faced with from sex to relationships to jobs to finances to racial tensions and pretty much anything else you can think of are dealt with in this entertaining jaunt. If Avenue Q is playing in your area, then you simply must see it.
Don’t let the cute puppets fool you. Avenue Q is a smart and irreverent look at the dark complexities of being an adult and it pulls no punches.
